Thermal foaming technology
26-06-09
Thermal Inkjet is a printing technology that creates bubbles in the ink by heating the nozzle to cause ink to be discharged, and its core characteristics and limitations are as follows:

Technical principles and advantages
1. Working principle: The ink is instantly heated to above 300℃ through a thin film resistor, forming a bubble to push the ink drop to spray, which belongs to the high-temperature and high-pressure technology.
2. High nozzle density and low cost:
Fabricated on a silicon processing line, the chip is produced in parallel at the wafer level, integrating passive/active components, reducing the complexity of interconnects, and achieving device compactness.
Nozzle and ink cartridge integrated design (as in Canon, HP solutions), though with higher consumable costs, it simplifies the nozzle replacement process.
3. Patent and market control:
Once dominated by Canon and HP patents, and licensed to companies such as Kodak andLexmark, but key patents have expired, and technical application restrictions have been relaxed.

Limitations
1. Ink and nozzle loss:
High temperature and high pressure environment lead to nozzle corrosion, ink splash and blockage risk, ink chemical properties are prone to change, affecting color stability.
Suitable only for low viscosity, high tension water-based inks, cannot be compatible with solvent-based inkjet (such as outdoor advertising scenarios).
2. Print quality defects:
Bubble jet direction is difficult to control precisely, and the edges of lines can be锯toothed, affecting precision.
Application scenarios
Strengths: Home and commercial document printing (such as Canon G series), achieving smooth color transitions with high ink frequency and small ink droplet volume (down to 5 picoliters).
Limited fields: Industrial-grade printing that requires high durability or solvent ink (such as UV inkjet).
Current technology trends show that hot-foaming technology is optimizing costs through circuit integration, but its physical limitations still restrict its expansion in the high-end market.
